For those of you born in July, you lucked out! Rubies are thought to be the most magnificent of all gemstones and considered the queen of stones. There was actually a Chinese emperor that was said to have offered an entire city for a sizable ruby! Although I would think that if you own a city, you can probably afford a ruby.
Back in the day it was worn as an amulet (yes, like Sofia the First) to ward off the plague. Luckily we don't have to worry about that anymore! It was also worn to ward off danger, and was said to grow darker in color when danger was close by. It also kept the body safe and banished sadness and foolish thoughts. So basically, a ruby could warn you when a box of a dozen donuts is nearby AND banish the foolish thought that you should eat them all before anyone else can! ;)
It also promotes a clear mind, increased concentration and motivation, brings a sense of power to the wearer, and increases self-confidence and determination...um yes please!
The word ruby actually comes from the Latin word "ruber," meaning red. Quality rubies can be found in Greenland, India, Sri Lanka, Australia, Kenya, Tanzania, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the United States. In their natural state they are more of a deep berry color than the bright red we commonly associate with rubies. The ruby's red glow is said to come from it's internal flame that cannot be extinguished. July baby or not, it's the perfect gift for the ones you love and yourself of course!
And just because those rubies are banishing the "foolish" thought of eating a dozen donuts doesn't mean you can't have one or two! Or four. Hey, that ruby is also keeping your body safe after all!
